Why PRINCE2 Agile® Foundation?

PRINCE2 Agile® Practitioner level qualification launched officially in 2015. It was introduced originally to enable delegates to study the application of agile methods within PRINCE2®. Prior knowledge of PRINCE2® was required for an understanding of the course so the initial prerequisite was PRINCE2® Practitioner level (then being reduced to Foundation). However, while agile methods create the perfect balance for those wishing to apply the customer centric and highly flexible Scrum and Kanban, an understanding of the structured framework and universal terminology of PRINCE2® is also considered essential. Until now, PRINCE2 Agile® has not been available to study as a stand-alone method (unless you were one of the lucky few that took part in our pilot scheme) - Now it is!

Says Tom Lynam, PPM product manager at AXELOS best practice…

“PRINCE2 Agile® practitioner has been a great success and has gained popularity since its launch just two years ago. This is no surprise to us at AXELOS. As creators of the method, we knew that there was a need in the industry for something that created an awareness and understanding of agile methods like Scrum and Kanban, but within the structured and well established framework of PRINCE2®. The introduction of a Foundation exam opens up the methodology to those in the industry that are not already practiced in PRINCE2®.”

What's the difference between PRINCE2® and PRINCE2 Agile®?

All of the elements of PRINCE2® are valid within PRINCE2 Agile® so it compliments rather than replaces PRINCE2®. All of the elements of PRINCE2® are still very much valid within PRINCE2 Agile®. It is an extension to PRINCE2®. The guide gives advice and guidance on agile behaviours, concepts, frameworks and techniques that can be used within a project context.
