APM - Association for Project Management is the largest professional body of its kind in Europe. It is committed to developing and promoting project and programme management through its course progression. APM as an organisation has now obtained chartered status.
The status of chartered is a ‘hard won’ seal of approval from none other than the Monarchy and is governed or approved by the Privy Council. Professions that are awarded chartered status, like accountancy or surveyancy, are perceived as thought leaders with the highest standards of excellence. Although passing the APM exams does not automatically provide chartered status for project professionals, the APM Project Management Qualification (PMQ) and the Project Management Institute’s (PMI) Project Management Professional (PMP)® Certifications have both been approved as recognised assessments on the pathway to ChPP status.
Being accredited under an APM training course is your starting point. Being a member of the APM (and therefore being APM training accredited) can be part of the qualifying criteria. In addition to this, potential candidates will be subject to the following before they can achieve chartered status:
A rigorous entry process (including peer review).
Commitment on CPD and the required number of points.
Undertaking to comply with the Code of Professional Conduct.
APM training qualifications demonstrate to your employer, clients and suppliers that you are a skilled and committed project professional. They are also aligned with IPMA's 4 level Competency framework which provides recognition throughout the world. Candidates who pass the APM PMQ course qualification are also entitled to register their details on the International Project Management Association (IPMA) website at Level D (APM do charge for this service).
Project Fundamentals Qualification is the entry level APM training certificate (SCQF level 6).
Delegates with no prior experience or APM course accreditation who wish to gain a broad understanding of how projects are run.
Elements of the project management life cycle covered by the APM body of knowledge that have now been integrated into APM courses such as planning and scheduling, communication, teamwork, resource management, project risk management and project reviews.
1 hour exam with 60 multiple choice questions.

APM PMQ training: The APM Project Management Qualification, formerly known as APMP: The APM Project Management qualification course) is now known as the APM Project Management Qualification (PMQ). This is also equivalent to IPMA level D and SCQF level 7.
People with an understanding of project management and / or previously qualified at PFQ level. We recommend approximately 2 years project management experience as the level of understanding gained from this is much broader and practical than the entry level and examination more complex.
The APM PMQ syllabus has been updated to align with the APM Competence Framework. Key additions and removals include:

Additionally, the pass mark will now be adjusted based on the difficulty of the exam paper, ensuring a fair assessment for all candidates. This new format is designed to accommodate a wider range of candidates, particularly those who are neuro-diverse or non-native English speakers.

APM membership - Qualifications offer routes into APM membership, including automatic discounted membership for those obtaining APM Introductory Certificate and APMP certification.
APM have rolled out a new study directive which affects any candidates wishing to sit either the APM PFQ or the APM PMQ exams. The new study directive has minimum study time requirements for both exams . Each candidate will need to fulfil a set minimum study time of both 'directed' and 'guided' learning before sitting either exam.
