In Q3 last year, the fan favourite PRINCE2® methodology released version 7. The all new “PRINCE2® 7” has adapted to be more current than PRINCE2® ever has been. New topics include People and the soft skills to manage them, and sustainability which focuses on the environmental impacts of projects, two key areas that many are very passionate about. But PRINCE2® isn’t the only method which is adapting, the APM are just months away from updating their own methodologies. With a big release planned for Q3 this year, APM are producing their BoK (Body of Knowledge) 8th edition, with changes set to align their qualifications to the real world even more so than the 7th version already does. Stay tuned for more details in the coming months.
Whomever you vote for is irrelevant when it comes to the major, industry wide shifts that elections cause. The UK is due to hold their general election this Thursday, France due to have their snap presidential election shortly after, and the US due to have their presidential election towards the end of the year. Just how much uncertainty can planet Earth take at once!? But with uncertainty brings opportunity; regardless of who wins each election, change initiatives are opened the moment once the result has been made public. New or re-elected individuals push their policies through, and project managers, teams and offices are then relied upon to the Nth degree to put policy into practice. Be ready for this! Clear your schedule, upskill your teams, and prepare for legislative overhaul in the coming months globally.
The most inquisitive candidate on my course this year asked me the following question… “how do we stay ahead of AI?”. A curious point that many aren’t comfortable to ask, answer, or even listen to. Growing up with films such as the Terminator, AI is seen by many as a threat but allow me to challenge that train of thought for just a moment. As technology currently stands, the tools are fun to play around with but severely lacking the human elements of critical thinking, decision making and of course, empathy. Text creation tools have been used to save time, drafting emails, taking minutes in meetings, and analysing data, but even these most basic tools are still littered with errors, spelling mistakes and poor analysis.
My advice; use the tools to your advantage, allow them into your projects, but don’t rely on them as much as you rely on your own pen and paper. Once upon a time, the typewriter was seen as a threat to the notepad, yet now the typewriter has been developed into virtual documents, and the notepad still exists. Sometimes, you just can’t beat the original!
As I now look forward into my own future, I am looking to start studying a variety of new methods and adding more qualifications to my portfolio. Fancy joining me? We can all upskill together on one of the upcoming courses, just call 0800 151 0140 to discuss dates, times, methodologies and more. There has never been a better time to upskill than now!
